I paint from observation. I find joy in the discovery of color in response to light, to colors in combination and to the power that color holds in creating mood. I am drawn, also, to the eccentricities that I find in shape and perspective when studying the simple everyday object or the complex natural world.
Both still-life and landscapes hold the same appeal; the challenge is nuance; unexpected color, light; luminosity; feeling. Still life painting allows close study of the illusive nature of color and light that reveals the beauty of all things common. Landscape, demands a more urgent response to its ever changing nature.
