2022 Annual December Juried Show

State of the Art Gallery is a cooperative fine art gallery operated by its artist-members in New York’s upstate Finger Lakes region. We are open four days per week, and we host a new exhibit each month. As a not-for-profit organization, we seek to enhance the cultural and economic vitality of the community.

Entries are now being accepted

  • All artistic media, both 2-D & 3-D, will be considered, except photography. (We hold a juried photography show every June.)
  • The entry fee is $35.
  • The submission deadline will be 11pm, October 29, 2022.
  • The show will run from December 1, 2022 until January 1, 2023 .
  • The jury will consist of 5–7 members of the State of the Art Gallery.
  • Up to $1,000 in prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the prize judge.
  • The prize judges will be Victoria Romanoff and Aaron Kather.
  • Artwork will be presented both in our gallery and simultaneously on-line.
  • Previous December shows for 2020 and 2021 can be viewed online.

Entry Requirements

All entries must be original art that has never been exhibited at our gallery. Current members of State of the Art and their family members are not eligible.

The entry fee of $35 covers three entries per artist. The fee is non-refundable and does not guarantee that your work will be accepted into the show. It must be paid by PayPal during the entry submission procedure at EntryThingy. (A PayPal account is not required to use PayPal for this.)

Each entrant may submit up to three works, 2-D works may have up to 2 additional images for detail and 3-D work may have up to 3 additional images for different views of the piece.

Entries may not exceed 48″ in width or 50 lb. in weight.

Submission of Work

All entries will be processed through our page at EntryThingy.

All image files should be labeled as follows: Year, month, last name, FIRST NAME (all caps), image number (01,02,03 etc.), title of work (or short title).jpg. For example:

Delivery of Work

If your work is accepted into the show, it must be hand delivered by you or someone you designate to the gallery between 5pm and 7pm on November 27 or between 10am and 6pm on November 28. If you live too far away to hand deliver your work, consider mailing it to someone in the area who could deliver it for you. Or contact Ileen Kaplan, one of our artist members, who has agreed to receive delivery of out-of-town artwork. Any work sent to her must be sent UPS only and have a prepaid return label included in the package.

All work hand-delivered to the gallery must be retrieved on January 2 or 3, 2023.

After all the entries are in, a panel of members from the gallery decide what will be accepted for the show. After the show is installed, a prize judge, selected from outside the membership of the gallery, views the show and decides how the prize money will be awarded.

Yes! It has no bearing on whether or not the work is accepted into the show but we encourage everyone to offer their work for sale. It enhances the value of the show and helps to promote the idea that it is a relevant, professional offering. That being said, we will not reject a good work if the artist does not want to offer it for sale.
